  • What I Did this Weekend

I didn't switch to a new site. I did do this though:

This is my mom and older sister. She graduated too. My sister, not my mom.

Zac also graduated. Check out the bow tie! He is stylin'.

Me and my boys. I love 'em.

I got a Bachelor's of Business Administration Degree in Management. Started in 1998, so it only took 10 years. Hehe. I am glad I went to the graduation. Thanks to those who pressured me to do it (Cris, J.D., Curt, and Dennis). I know I would have regretted it if I hadn't gone. I don't know what I will do now....I already have a good job and a family. Maybe I will start reading, or knitting, or playing the piano. But prolly not. Whew....I am so glad to be finished. No, I will not be going for a Master's. No way.

  • Who's Not Busy?

Let's get to it: my excuse for not posting and update is that I have been really busy. But hey, who among us is not busy? My point is that my excuse is probably not a very good one. I will just write some random things while I have a moment.

    1) We saw The Eagles in Chicago last month. Why didn't we see them in Tulsa one of the 2 times they were there? Long story. At any rate, the concert was great. I took my camera but the tickets said we couldn't take pictures or video. I even called the United Center and asked....no dice. So I left it in our room. We get there and after a few songs Glenn Frey says "take pictures if you want to, just no video please." Gee, thanks Glenn.

    2) I officially hate school. I have been working on my BA for 10 years. You saw that right. It has taken this long because I have been a mother for almost 21 years and a wife for almost 26. I have also worked since I was 18. The reason I detest school this semester is because I have to GO to class....during the day. Know who is at NSU during the day? Kids. I have taken evening or online classes up to this point but none of the classes I needed were offered online this semester. Good thing about all this? I will finish in early December and never plan to set foot in a college classroom again.

    3) I am so excited that Whitney is pregnant because she has clearly wanted this for so long. I am also so, so happy for Katie and Derick. I got to take care of Olivia in the nursery Sunday and you have never seen a more lovely head of hair on a little baby girl.

    4) J.D. is coming home tomorrow afternoon for fall break. I haven't seen him in 3 weeks, so I am thrilled. He will be 21 next week and we are having a big party at a local ranch. There is a lodge and a bunkhouse there, so I hope lots of friends come and celebrate with him.

    5) Church is a wonderful place. I love our church and all of our friends there. We still haven't settled into the two service format, but we will figure it out. I don't mean there is a problem with it, there is the issue (for us) of which service to attend.

    6) I predict that Tatum will love me before the end of the year. She is slowly warming up to the nursery workers, so I trust that it's just a matter of time before we are great friends.

    7) back to school.....my family really wants me to participate in the graduation ceremonies. That is the last thing I want to do in December. Or any other time. I just don't see the point. Just send me the diploma.

    8) I have not been a good Foodie Friend lately. Maybe because I don't cook a lot. Can't cook if we aren't home, or at least that's my excuse. Funny that we always manage to eat though.

    9) My sister and I have been running. She is much farther along than me because I have been hindered with my back. I got a shot a few weeks ago and have progressed nicely. She is running 2-3 miles at a time. Me? I go 2 miles and run the straights. That's like running 3 laps or 3/4 of a mile... I think. I just can't do it all at the same time.

Enough already! I  hope everyone is doing well and I hope to see you all soon. Much love to my homies.

  • Week of July 21

It has been a nice Sunday so far. We had a good Sunday School lesson, the music was good in the worship service, and Bro. Jeff delivered an energized message. We are having our discipleship group over tonight, so I look forward to that.

I worked in Washington, DC this week. That's where the office is, but I work from home. I usually go there once a year or so, but learned as soon as I returned from this trip that I have to go back in two weeks. We had a strategic planning meeting, went to a neat museum about news called, what else, "The Newseum." We had dinner at Fogo De Chao, which is one of those Brazilian steak houses where they carry around huge skewers of meat and you eat until you never want to see meat again. It was good.

Here are some pictures. I won't be taking my camera next time because I really don't go anywhere to take good pics. This is the hotel where I stayed - The Phoenix Park. It's historic and I can prove it.

Walk out under that green awning and look right and you see this:

Look to the left and you see this:

    postal museum

Ok, I hope this makes sense. If you walk around the corner of the hotel (to the left), you are headed toward the office. It's a couple of buildings back and appears to be beside the "Do Not Enter" sign, but that's an illusion. See that yellow vehicle thing? And the silver car beside it? Go back to that other car on that side of the road, and the office is back there where those little green awnings are. The building with the white is the hotel.

    hotel to office

If you enter the building and go to the 3rd floor, you see the office of the National American Indian Housing Council.

About the hotel: how many places do you go where the wall paper and curtains match so closely?

    curtains

And there is a mail chute near the elevator on every floor and a mailbox in the lobby. I wonder if anyone used it? I would have to be staying there a long time before finding the need to mail something. Oh, and the relic in the foreground? It's an ashtray. (haha)

    mail chute

I took this picture at the Newseum. It's a piece of the Berlin Wall. My favorite exhibit was a display of Pulitzer Prize winning photos. They also have a 4-D movie about reporters. The chairs move, they spray water in your face, and a rat crawls on your leg. Or it feels like it.

    BERLIN WALL

Here is the edible bouquet that the boss got for me and the other fellow who works from his home. The DC folks always celebrate birthdays with cake and such, and since we never get to be there, they wanted to celebrate our birthdays. John's was in June. Mine was in March! Felt silly being sung "Happy Birthday" but the fruit was nice.

Our little family is heading out on vacation Tuesday. Going to Broken Bow to fish, swim, relax, and bond. I don't know why I said that, but I am sure we will. We are taking our bikes and the boat. Should be a great time.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week. And in case I miss it, Happy Birthday to you. (haha)

  • Bad News Bears. Champs....really?

I am too excited to sleep. The Locust Grove Free Will Baptist Women's softball team WON the Pryor Church League's post-season tournament tonight.

Here's the scenario. We played Pleasant View Baptist Monday night. I think we have beaten them once before and they beat us once during the season. We win, lining us up to play Jubilee. We always had some admiration for this team because they were good and they knew it. So did we. We beat them during the season and beat them again on Tuesday night at 6:30. We had to wait until 8:30 to play First United Methodists. Beat 'em, putting us in the finals on Thursday (tonight)....undefeated up to this point. We were scheduled to play Thursday night at 7:30 against the team that came out of the losers' bracket (turned out to be the Methodists), meaning they had to beat us twice in order to win because they had lost and we had not. We won 10-9!

This is our team's first season together. We started out a little rusty, way out of shape, and lost as many games as we won during the season. We pulled together for the tournament and I was so proud of the girls. I am the pitcher for the team and have not always performed at my best, but I always knew I had a good team behind me that would save the day. They never let me down.

Before the last inning tonight, we knew we had to keep the other team from scoring in order to win. As I went out, I asked Becky Gwartney for some encouragement. She took my hand and told me I could do it. In addition to this, two girls from Jubilee Church got to the field just as the game started and told us to win! That was nice of them, sure. But during that last inning I looked to our dugout and both of those girls are in there hanging on the fence, cheering us on along with our reserve players. I really believe Becky and those two ladies gave me just what I needed to get out of that inning. I hope I can provide the same encouragement to someone someday.

I have gotten to know many of the team members through this experience. I didn't know Lindsay Penderson or Valerie Wolf very well before they joined the team. Didn't know Leah and Shelbi Hurry either. Now I consider them my friends for life and am so thankful that we all got to share in this experience together. We had so many people come and watch: parents, kids, and friends. Thanks to all of them for the support tonight. It meant a lot.

By the way, Cassie Blackf (i mean)Walker is an incredible coach. Smart and calm. Always right. Awesome athlete.

Aaron and Casey Pontious need to move here, have their baby (boy!), and Casey could be on the team. That would be neat. Launi's already on the roster for next year.
